    Joanna

Joanna is a polish I met in Chiang Khong. I like her soooo much, she's very intelligent and suuuuper funny

On my way back from ATM to my guesthouse, someone was saying hello behind me. That's Joanna. As soon as she caught up with me, with her strong-accent-English, she started talking to me as an old friend. Since then, on Chiang Khong's quiet night-time streets, in the cafes, then in Joanna's guesthouse room, we laughed and laughed so loudly. Others must be thinking, oh, what's happening on these 2 ladies, they must be getting crazy!! Finally, when it's towards midnight, a security guard came to ask us to be quiet, guess our neighbours complained of the noises we made Well, I have to say her English is quite poor, luckily I am smart, always could understand her well, guess she was also very happy to finally find someone who can understand her English well. Her funny Enlgish and body-language, for many times, made me laugh so much that I almost slipped from my seat under the table!

Her favorites words: no possible (the stress tone is on 'ssi'), wait a minute and say me (=tell me). I guess it's due to the German pronounciation, she pronounced every 'ing' with a 'k' followed behind, thus what she said would be like, 'in the morning-k, I was calling-k my husband, he said he was stilll working-k...

She's been living and working in Germany for 25 years. Since her husband is always busy on work and got no time to travel, she had to travel alone a lot . Her husband was kind of complaining her heavy weight, so she chose to travel to SE Asia to lose weight--when she travels in SE Asia, she does not eat, just has some drinks and swims a lot! Funny uh? She shared with me many funny things from her trips, such as how she fought with a bad Egyptian policeman, how she played tricks with the vendors when she would like to (oh, she's quite naughty), as well as misunderstandings happened along the trips due to language problem (such as E sounds like A in German which brings communication problems)...

We also talked about a little bit about Tibetan issue, her point is, oh, I think no way to make a place with monks only, China is huge, there must be good control in China, or otherwise, it will be just like Russia...See, intelligent uh?

The next morning, she's heading for Laos while I'm heading for Thailand. We had breakfast together, again, laughters...she told me she did not sleep at all: when she looked for a guesthouse in Chiang Khong, initially she found a neat one with pretty nice room, it costs 500B, she thought that's too expensive and finally chose a cheaper one at 200B. When she was on bed, she realized 500B=10Euro only (what can be earned by 1 hour cleaning work in her country), she said, you see, I was so stupid, I laughed and laughed, and just could not fall asleep the whole night

In the bank, when she exchanged some Euro to Bahts, it took us so long to wait, then she said to me, oh, i guess they are producing the Bahts now...

When we took a photo together, she asked me to stand in front of her to hide her fat belly...ha ha ha...

Joanna says, Eva, I will be waiting for your coming for the whole year, come and just stay at my home, I can also make travel plan for you so that you can save money and make the trip more efficiently.

Well, to some extent, Joanna and I are similar kinds of people: independent, optimistic, tough when necessary, rarely get bored when being alone, have eyes to find fun things in life and would enjoy them well. So, I guess I have got a friend in Germany from now on...

P.S.: Still in Chiang Mai. Took a Thai cooking course yesterday and went to 5 tribe villages today, which are quite interesting.
